Medical errors and misdiagnosis: costing much more

by Chris Bate

It is estimated that medical errors will account for over 3 million deaths globally this year alone, yes you read that correctly, 3 million! It is unsurprising that this is then the third leading cause of death.

To make this already inauspicious situation worse, the cost implications of healthcare harming patients is a staggering $1.3 trillion. Approximately 12,500 of these patient deaths are accounted for by the NHS with the NHS Litigation Authority reporting that the Health Service ‘coughed up’ £1.1 billion in legal fees alone for 2014.

Misdiagnosis can be seen in the same way as mishiring, it is costly, inefficient and NEVER delivers the right result. Being in the medical device space the focus has always been, and will always be, on quality, so why is that not the same when it comes to recruiting talent? Similar to the costs of mis-diagnosis, are the costs of a mis-hire. Research estimates that the average cost of a mis-hire can be anywhere between 4 and 15 times the annual salary*. Shocked? So the question is……”are you investing sufficient time in your recruitment process?”

So, from diagnosis to recruitment, in short, ensure you get it right first time. We genuinely understand the costs at stake of a mis-hire which is why we strive to ensure your recruitment process brings you outstandingly talented candidates who will deliver lasting impact and add financial value.

Please feel free to get in touch if this is something you've experienced and want to avoid in the future.
