Education, engineering and healthcare lead way for 2016

Strong underlying market dynamics favour education, engineering and healthcare recruiters in 2016, says Mark Maunsell, associate director for business services market intelligence at corporate finance house Clearwater International.

Maunsell was speaking at an event celebrating recruiters appearing on Recruiter’s FAST 50 2016 and HOT 100 2015 lists at host RBS’s City of London offices last night.

Maunsell singled out education, with its increasing pupil numbers and teacher talent shortages, as an example of the healthy dynamics at play.

The HOT 100, sponsored by Interact Medical, is researched on Recruiter’s behalf by Agile Intelligence, with Clearwater International conducting the research for the FAST 50, sponsored by Hitachi. RBS supports both league tables.

Sue Dodd, managing director of Agile Intelligence, said the agencies that make it into the top performing HOT 100 recruiters – now heading into its 10th year – tend to have similar characteristics. 

These include well-positioned sectors, optimal delivery models, efficient processes and very competent management teams.

“This combination of the structural, the financial and the human is the perfect mix that often leads our entries into the HOT 100 winners list,” she said.

Also demonstrating this mix was recruiter BIE Executive, which topped the 2016 FAST 50. Last night, Rob Walker, BIE’s chief executive thanked his “hugely energetic and passionate team” for helping secure the top ranking. Coming out on top of the list surprised him as much as realising he had worked in recruitment for three decades to date, he told the audience. 

As for next year’s lists, Recruiter editor DeeDee Doke said she was looking forward to seeing how ranked companies involved in mergers and acquisitions would fare in the next FAST 50 and HOT 100 league tables. 

“One of the things I’m going to be looking for is to see how some of the companies, which are on the lists that have been involved in mergers and acquisitions, actually perform – and if they are on the lists again,” she said.
