Site & UK Supply Chain Manager

VACANCY | Site & UK Supply Chain Manager | Widnes

Our client, Vertellus, is a successful US specialty chemicals group, with 10 manufacturing plants around the world, including in Europe, China, India and the US. Its focus is on ‘Smart Chemistry’, specialising in developing and producing fine chemicals and intermediates for sophisticated chemistry applications, supplying to customers on a global basis. It is a leading provider of ingredients used in a wide variety of markets, including pharmaceuticals, personal care, nutrition, agriculture, ‘green technologies’ and many more; their products are found in many everyday consumables. Vertellus is a ‘Responsible Care’® company and follows the highest regulatory and quality manufacturing standards. Its new CEO and senior team are driving a strategy of Communication, Engagement and striving for Operational Excellence, including across its Supply Chain, to achieve profitable, sustainable growth, and the three UK sites are aligned to this goal. The Site & UK Supply Chain Manager ('Site Master Production Scheduler, US terminology) is a proactive role to implement and drive SiOP process improvements and effect change, based at the Halebank site, (previously known as Pentagon Fine Chemicals) and to roll-out to the Workington and Seal Sands sites.

Reporting directly to the Site Director and to the Global Supply Chain Leader in the US, you will be responsible for the overall end-to-end Supply Chain process for the Halebank site, including all aspects of production and inventory planning, with a team of three. You will work to optimise the use of site resources to ensure the ever-changing production plans, for this fast-paced, complex and versatile manufacturing site, meet delivery dates and customer demands. Working independently and as a strong participant in team projects, you must be able to develop, manage and influence multiple internal and external stakeholder relationships on site, at UK sister sites and most importantly as the ‘front-face’ to key customers. This is a varied and interesting role, as besides being required to immediately 'take the reins' to perform the overall day-to-day ‘Production Planning’ function, you will be required to review and proactively challenge the ongoing processes, by gaining a quick understanding of the fundamental root causes of typical issues on site. From your proven operational experience and knowledge, you will provide and implement pragmatic, best practice solutions to drive Supply Chain process and system improvements, resulting in greater efficiency for the overall site, (including transitioning basic duties out into the team). Following successful developments at Halebank, you will work closely as an adviser to ‘roll-out' continuous improvement ideas with colleagues at the other UK sister sites, adapted to suit their individual challenges.

We seek a dynamic, high calibre and experienced Supply Chain Planning professional, of degree calibre and ideally CIPS qualified (or holding an equivalent operational qualification). You will likely have gained your expertise in another complex, fast-paced manufacturing environment that operates best practice Supply Chain end-to-end processes. (Knowledge or experience gained in a COMAH compliant Chemicals environment would be advantageous, but this is not a prerequisite, and likewise any training in DGSA or IATA.) You will be highly computer literate, and have experience of using SAP or another integrated ERP/MRP system. You must have strong communication, process improvement and project management skills, and as a forward-thinking achiever be capable of supporting business-critical decision making and through your insight affect essential Supply Chain improvements.
