Based on Manchester Science Park, Zilico is a business involved in medical diagnostics. Their disruptive point of care technology, ‘Zedscan’, is an alternative to the longstanding ‘smear test’ method of screening for cervical cancer. ZedScan uses Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to differentiate between normal, pre-cancerous and cancerous tissue on the cervix according to its electrical properties. This accurate analysis can help clinicians reduce the number of patients who are over-treated and the number of biopsies performed. Patients benefit from receiving an immediate and objective result, again reducing the need for subsequent potentially unnecessary, invasive and potentially painful treatments.
The relationship between RMG and Zilico began several years ago when they were still in the product development phase and pre-commercialisation, we supported their CEO, Sameer Kothari, in recruiting a marketer to help them develop for the launch of Zedscan. In the last 18 months Zilico ramped up their operations for the commercialisation phase and engaged RMG to recruit a Commercial Sales Manager, Product Marketing Manager, Operations Director and most recently a Research Director. All the roles are geographically constrained to work from the office in Manchester.
As an early stage business Zilico needed to acquire talented people with niche skills who could work in an agile business culture. Sameer engaged RMG as retained headhunters, which involves our mapping the complete talent pool with the required skills, within a commutable distance of Manchester, and proactively approaching these individuals with Zilico’s story and vision. We would then take any interested individuals through a personalised interview before final shortlisting.
