Vernacare is a leading infection control organisation, whose innovative single-use system and award-winning products have made them global leaders in human waste management across the healthcare sector.
The business pioneered the single-use system more than 50 years ago which is now used in 94% of UK hospitals and in over 50 countries, to help reduce the risk of cross-infection and save nursing time, whilst minimising the environmental and cost impact of alternative re-usable systems.
Employing over 180 people, they produce approximately 160 million units per year, manufactured to the highest standards.
RMG were engaged by Vernacare to support in the recruitment of a Group Health, Safety & Environment Officer to be based at their Bolton head office. Following the departure of the previous incumbent, Vernacare had been engaging with a consultant on an ad-hoc basis. The role was to be offered at a mid-senior level, initially on a 6-month contract which would then be reviewed.
Having successfully recruited similar positions, RMG recommended a Retained Selection service. We ultilised a branded advert with a professional industry body, SHP. RMG screened the advert response, meeting relevant candidates and interviewing them against the clients' competencies and behaviours.
Four weeks after sign off, RMG delivered a shortlist of 3 candidates and were subsequently interviewed by Vernacare. Of those shortlisted, two progressed to a final stage interview. Vernacare advised RMG that both individuals could adequately perform the role, however, the successful candidate had slightly more experience within corporate environmental management which placed them slightly in front. After 6 months, the individual was offered the role on a permanent basis due to their success in post.
