Technical Manager EMEA

Overview

We worked with this major corporate player in the Chemicals sector, within its Specialty Chemicals division. This successful and strongly branded global business has diverse manufacturing companies across such areas as additives, polymers, advanced materials and coatings. Our client sought to strengthen their Technical R&D team at one of its non-core Chemical manufacturing sites in the UK, by recruiting a commercially focused Technical R&D Manager for its wider EMEA region.

Strategy

We were invited to take the brief from HR and line contacts based at three different locations; at the manufacturing site, at the UK Corporate HO and from the European Development leadership team. These three parts of the business were very different in cultural style, although had the same underlying company values and keen adherence to social responsibility and best practice.

The company had established group procedures in place and actively recruited directly for talent in the market due to the strength of their brand. They had searched the market through a database approach without success and had decided to take a new approach and employ the services of RMG. This decision was made due to the relevance of our specialist Chemical sector expertise. The challenge was to find the right calibre of technical person who matched the different demands from this role, on a local and European level to fill the role of Technical Manager EMEA.

We conducted a targeted search in the relevant sectors akin to their non-core business and invited a short list of sourced candidates to our first stage competency based interviews.

For the convenience of the candidates being interviewed we held the interviews off-site at hotel venues near to the local manufacturing site. Throughout the process we made regular visits to our client and kept the relevant parties up to date with the search activity. This approach worked well as it allowed us to balance the evolving requirements and respond to the changing needs of the business.

Outcome

We were able to add value by sourcing a highly relevant and talented candidate to the business, who was referred to RMG through more than one contact through our head-hunting research identifications. When appointed he quickly proved successful within the business, achieving fast progression and taking on wider European responsibilities. He has worked for the business successfully for over four years.
