Client - Johnson Matthey

Roles - Multiple roles spanning more than a decade

Overview

Johnson Matthey is a highly successful FTSE 100 company, an international speciality chemicals company, building into its third century as a leader of added-value sustainable technologies, employing circa 13,000 people worldwide. Its focus is on clean air, clean energy and low carbon technologies.

The Roles

As a long-term supplier to Johnson Matthey, our relationship has evolved over more than ten years with the ever-changing needs and direction of the business, through cycles of restructuring, ambitious growth and ‘cost-tightening’.

Our focus has mainly been within their Efficient Natural Resources division and Catalyst Technologies business, although this has led into our wider interest in other exciting developing technologies such as Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Batteries which come under their New Markets division.

We have used our proven search process to manage diverse recruitment needs mainly in support of their main Catalyst Manufacturing site in Clitheroe, Lancashire (a Top COMAH site, situated in quite a remote catchment area to attract highly technical professionals and wide-ranging engineers) and some roles have had global responsibilities.

We have also handled roles for their R&D Technical Excellence hub in the North East, working globally for specific new roles and for sister companies, such as with Tracerco and for their joint Panki site in India.

Our more regular site work at Clitheroe and in the North East has involved recruiting for multiple different roles, including for their Site Manager, Operations Manager and other key members of their Senior Management team, plus for senior/mid-managers spanning all different functions, which demonstrates the depth of our relationship with them, in particular in operations, engineering, HSE and continuous improvement support.

Outcome

RMG remains an established vetted supplier to Johnson Matthey and their now central group Talent Acquisition team, having an open understanding to help when needed with what would be classed as complex or difficult searches.

“RMG are very well connected and understand the chemical industry.  They work closely with our HR team and recruiting managers to really understand the role, person, environment and the cultural aspects of the role, providing very detailed briefings of candidates presented for interview. Their recruiting partner stays close to the candidates throughout the whole process, including post induction to ensure a positive candidate experience.”

– Julie Bennett, Global HR Business Partner

“I agree with Julie’s comment and would add that “I feel we have open honest discussions around all aspects of a recruitment exercise so that we have a clear common understanding, which I really value. This is not my experience elsewhere!”

– Simon Howarth, Global S & OP Project Manager, CT (Catalyst Technologies), previously Site Manager, Clitheroe

“I have worked with Anita Caldwell and RMG over recent years, both in the capacity as a candidate and a client. I have also dealt with other recruitment ‘professionals’ in this time and have found Anita to be of a completely different calibre. She is a highly professional Senior Recruiter who really does focus on the specifics of the role and the candidate to search for the match that is in both parties’ interest. She is an excellent communicator who keeps timely communication with clients and candidates throughout a campaign until appointment and subsequently to ensure the fit is still a success.”

– Candidate – Mark Stanley
