Headhunter/ Search Consultant

Trainee Recruitment Consultant

What’s it really like being a trainee recruitment consultant at RMG? How will I spend my time?

Your days will include tasks such as researching markets, taking incoming calls and making outgoing calls to prospective candidates & clients, maintaining and updating RMG’s company ‘Profile’ (CRM) system.

By shadowing more experienced staff, you’ll learn on the job and pick up valuable knowledge to help you on your career path. You also be given a specific training programme, receive regular assessments, feedback and one-to-ones.

You could be dealing with Retained and/or Contingent projects and be tasked with ‘searching’ for suitable candidates for a range of different different levels.

Being a Recruitment Consultant is primarily a sales role, for successful people who achieve results the rewards are excellent.

Your hours will generally be Monday to Friday, 9am – 5.30pm. Although the role is mainly desk-based, you’ll get to meet clients and candidates both on and off site.

With experience there is the potential to progress up the RMG ladder.  Promotion into a Consultant, Senior Consultant or Management is a real possibility – especially if you’re consistently delivering, or exceeding, targets and making a big impression on clients and candidates alike.

With more experience comes the opportunity to get more involved, interviewing and selecting candidates and working directly with clients.

Typically, when you first start out you’ll be tasked with basic recruitment administrative tasks which can be humdrum but to become a great recruiter you need to ‘learn the ropes’ and the whole process.

What qualifications and experience do I need to apply?

When you join RMG you will have a training programme that is specifically tailored to your needs. Because we have a specific training programme for new recruits we believe that if someone has the right personality and drive then we can turn you into a successful recruitment consultant. However a degree or equivalent qualification would be good.

Experience is always an advantage, so if you’ve ever worked in any of the following areas we would be pleased to hear from you:- Sales, Customer Services or Human Resources…

  • Confidence when talking/meeting people
  • Good communication skills
  • Smart appearance
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Able to work to deadlines – that sometimes change
  • Ability to prioritise both your time and your workload
  • Drive and enthusiasm with the desire to succeed.
